Sfärisk
for drumset, wind instruments, tape, fog and video (2024)
Sfärisk is an interdisciplinary musical and visual performance that seeks to dissolve traditional boundaries—both between musical genres and between high culture and popular culture—creating a space for new sonic and societal perspectives. At its core, the project merges influences from Black Metal, Drone, and Ambient music with elements of contemporary composition, spatial sound design, and an intense visual and atmospheric dimension. The percussion serves as a sculptural centerpiece—rapid blast beats unfold hypnotically, while a soft bed of electronic sounds, vocals, and wind instruments forms the harmonic foundation.
Sfärisk challenges the conventional binary of "serious" and "popular" music, questioning these categorizations to emphasize the diversity of sonic expression and its political implications.
The project employs multichannel electronics to create an immersive auditory experience, integrating wind instruments placed behind the audience to seamlessly blend the electronic and instrumental layers. Visually, the performance is defined by a single moving white beam of light, projected through a dense layer of fog over the audience. This dynamic lighting, combined with the atmospheric effect of the mist, generates a striking, almost mystical ambiance, transforming the space into a new dimension of perception.
By merging music with scenographic and visual elements, Sfärisk aims to create a holistic artistic experience. The placement of instrumentalists behind the audience extends the experience of multichannel sound, actively engaging listeners within the sonic space. The interplay of sound and visual elements is designed to open up new ways of experiencing and understanding music, challenging conventional modes of performance and perception.
